David G. Derickson

David DericksonDavid Derickson has been a practicing Arizona lawyer for 46 years. He graduated from Occidental College with a BA in Political Science. He became a member of the Arizona Bar in 1969 after graduating from University of Arizona Law School. As a highly regarded criminal defense attorney, he has tried scores of criminal cases to jury verdict including some of the highest profile cases in Arizona legal history.

His practice includes personal injury cases, malpractice complex litigation and representation of professionals in dealing with disciplinary issues. At age 34, he was selected by the Governor to be a Superior Court Judge in Maricopa County, serving as the Presiding Criminal Judge before returning to his law practice.

He is a charter member, past President and Board member of Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ), a statewide group of hundreds of criminal defense attorneys. He acted as legislative liaison for AACJ for almost 15 years. He has maintained a professional relationship with many public officials at the city, county and state levels in the course of advocating for his clients and access to justice for the public. He is a continuing member of the Arizona Judges Association.

The national peer rating system provided by Martindale Hubbell gives him the highest rating available – AV Preeminent. He has been AV-rated for over 25 years. The Arizona Republic has named him one of Arizona’s Top Lawyers for 2015.

He has now moved his practiced from Ridenour Hienton, PLLC to ASU Law Group where he is “of counsel. The Law Group is a unique firm that provides high quality legal services. But it also provides an internship program for newly admitted members of the Bar to observe and participate in the practical business experience, decision making and “nuts and bolts” of building a successful, client-oriented practice.

David was elected to the Board of Governors of the Arizona State Bar in 2012. He is the Chair of the Succession Planning Task Force as well as co-chair of the Anti-Trust study group. In 2015, he received the AACJ John J. Flynn Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his years of accomplishment in the legal profession and in 2018, the Tom Karas Criminal Justice Award. Dave is often asked by fellow attorneys to act as a court expert on criminal law issues and to speak at legal seminars for AACJ and the State Bar on a variety of legal topics.
